  • Hey, I have two ddr 400mhz with 256mb so that means i have 512mb ram in my pc and I bought only one ddr 400mhz with 1gb, can i install it? Or do I need to buy another ddr 400mhz with 1gb so it is intalled in pairs????

  • You can install the extra 1gb, but I would reccomend only using that stick as mixing ram sticks can have unpredictable results. If you need more than 1GB then get another 1GB stick, preferably of the same make and model.

    Hope that helps

  • how do you put a DIMM onto a pc

i have 2gb ram on my pc, but i have a spare 1gb

i want to put it on

but i only have 2 dimms

how to i put in another

i have the room for it

    ?????????????

  • hi salablaaa

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying you have 3 sticks of memory and only 2 DIMM slots? If you you can only put 2 sticks into your PC. If you ahve 3 or more slots then obviously you can put all three in, but it is generally reccomended to have 2 sticks that are of equal size in order to maximise perfomance and maintain stability

  • hey

i meant i have 3 1gb sticks of ram, but only 2 DIMMS, so it leaves 1 stick out

so i was wondering whether or not you can add DIMMS to your pc so that i can add that extra 1gb

    cheers

  • ahh, unfortunately not, you will have to leave one out I'm afraid. Motherboards cannot be modified in that way.

  • No but if you put just 2 sticks in put them in same colour

  • my computer has a red slot then, blue slot, then red, then blue again, does it matter which slots u put it into?

  • You laptop will have a maximum amount of memory that it can handle, most likely somewhere between 2Gb and 4Gb depending on its age. Look in the manual or contact HP to find out.

It also most likely has 2 slots for memory so if you wanted to have 2GB you would need to replace the current 512MB sticks with 1GB sticks or one of them with a 2GB stick.

Hope that answers your question :)
