In Shima-Ha Shorin-ryu karate (Oshiro Sensei) this kind of hip rotation is essential. My grilfriend trains especially the hip impulse until 3 Years and the power she generates now is tremendous. I weight about 15 kg more than here and she is able to break my root relative easily, if I allow here enter. So it IS effective.
To understand it, in my opinion you need personal advice. The idea is not complicated, but easily misinterpreted.
Also search for the "douple hip punch" here on YT.

I have always looked at hip motion as transferring body mass into the strike over a short distance as a neccesary ingredient for effective "in fighting".

Is there a description posted somewhere? I'm familiar with hip rotation from back leg as in Shotokan. Korean styles use hip twist even from a horse stance. I've a teachers Rank in Ngo Cho Kune kung Fu which has a Karate like fa jing. Is this an extra rotation before rotating it forward, or simply an artifice of looking at it in two dimensions. It APEARS, to be preliminary rotation before the main ones. Is there a video somewhere just on that? I'm not nit picking, just want to understand.

Hey... that's funny that you did this.
I too combined Gekisai Dai Ichi and Dai Ni.
I felt like I was committing some sort of sin.
I like my version better :D

powerful display of technique fukykata ni
This form bears a resemblance to gekisai
Is Chokyu-gata an predecessor to gekisai?

It's derivative which combines both forms

can someone explain the hip motion, it seems to be done in a way that robs momentum from the punches, as if there is an extra motion that not only telegraphs the punch excessively but move in a direction away from the target. I'm sure once an explanation is given it will make sense. it is unlike the shotokan, shorin ryu, goju, taekwondo and shito ryu hip rotations I've seen.

The vibrant hip rotation is a fundamental practice within our method and designed to help with training the "core."
