  • It's obvious that our Portuguese teacher is not a native speaker. There is a basic difference between SER and ESTAR in Portuguese (both meaning TO BE in English). "Hoje É um dia lindo" is not the best translation for "Today is a beautiful day." ESTAR is normally used for something temporary, SER is for something more permanent. Today may be a beautiful day, but tomorrow may not. Therefore, in good Portuguese it should be, "Hoje ESTÁ um dia lindo."

  • @assistech2000 Obviamente você é que não entende Português ou Inglês corretamente. "To be" means ser ou estar so both "Hoje é um dia lindo" and "Hoje está um dia lindo" are both acceptable translations and used in every day conversation BTW I'm a Native speaker born and raised in Brazil. Have a good one.

  • @morbeck If you are a native speaker of Portuguese, why did you start your sentence in Portuguese and finished it in English? It makes me wonder. Any high school kid should know there's a basic difference between SER and ESTAR. Google "letticia caruso ser estar" and read her blog. FYI, I'm a native speaker of Portuguese (I'm writing in English so non-Portuguese speakers can understand). I have a BA in translation and an MA in English so, believe me, I know my grammar.

  • @assistech2000 I started the sentence in English for the same reason you did. It's just so pathetic how you just want to desperately show off your so called diplomas. It's a freaking comedy sketch, grow up. Even if it's wasn't accurate It wouldn't make a bit of a difference, it would only add to the irony in it.

  • wow all 3 girls are the same dude.. funny vid though

  • o correto é hoje está um dia lindo, e não hoje é um dia lindo -.-! is the correct hoje está um dia lindo, and not hoje é um dia lindo -.-!

  • I'm brazillian and agree with @Cabahomi for weather isn't natural use the verb ''ser'' is more usual say "hoje ESTÁ um dia lindo" or simlply "que dia lindo" (:

  • NO WE DON'T SPEAK PORTUGUESE IN BRAZIL AT ALL! WE SPEAK BRASILES!

  • PORTUGUESE NATIONAL ANTHEM LYRICS

LADROES AO MAR VAMOS TODOS, NACAO CARENTE E IMORAL. LEVANTAI HOJE BEM MORTO O SEU CORPO CABRAL. ESSAS PORRAS DA MEMORIA. OH PAH VE-SE POIS POIS QUE SEUS INGRATOS AVOS, IRAO ESQUECER A HISTORIA. AS ARMAS! AS ARMAS! QUE ESQUECEMOS DE LEVAR. AS FALHAS! AS FALHAS! A PATRIA SUJAR! O' MEUS CAGOES VAMOS A CAGAAAAAR !!!!

  • @morbeck Disagree completely. Would you feel natural saying "hoje É um dia lindo"? I wouldn't. SER is a verb for things that never change. Like "a camisa É vermelha". The weather can change at any moment, so it is not natural to say "É"

  • too lame!!... I couldn't stand it through... sorry

  • fela da puta!!!

  • i miss roberta

  • @assistech2000 He probably used google translator 8D
