The art was probably its own in the beginning but during the times many martial artists from other nations have come to Thailand so it's probably a mix of just about everything. I don't think there are many martial arts where all techniques are completely "homemade". And if there is such an art, it sure isn't a positive thing. Having a multitude of techniques and influences only increases the possibilities of a martial art.

Close, Mata = Eye and Hari = Day, so it would be eye of the day in the old way. But in Indonesian language Matahari as one word means Sun. The roots are Sanskrit.
