@TheThetruthiz I've done both Judo and BJJ for years and, well, BJJ guys usually suck standing--much worse than your average Judo player's ground work. Half of them can only pull guard or do a crappy double or single. I've been "taught" throws in BJJ and the less said about that the better. Ground work doesn't work if you can't get your opponent on the ground. Rickson's standup is decent, but he's also a Judo blackbelt under Medhi.

This here is Hayward a great Judo player. He's also very good on the ground. Amazing to see Hayward spar. Hayward is also a long time friend with "Judo" Gene Le Bell. This took place at Los Angeles City College. Same Dojo that I train in.

@redwoodowl That is Rickson Gracie. Back in around 1987, Helio, Rorion, Rickson, Royler and Royce visited Hayward Nishioka’s judo club in Los Angeles. They rolled with Nishioka’s students, and both Rickson and Royler got a chance to roll with Nishioka himself. Rorion did some commentary on the original video.

he is not a god gracy was throwed and quite handley

I'm pretty sure that's not Rickson, but I think it says something about his abilities that now merely throwing him warrants the moment captured on film, posted to YouTube and discussed for eternity.

Videos is fake, that would never happen to Rickson Christ :-)

@noformstyle yup! BJJ is so limited. So one dimentional. It's not a practical martial art. It looks good in the UFC though. But imagine a judoka slamming someone on the concrete which is where real fights take place. It'll be game over.

LMAO....so i guess Rickson Gracie IS human after all.

Here's Dave Camarillo's take on which to learn first - judo or BJJ.
"Judo is the ultimate in martial arts. It is the toughest art I've ever sampled. It builds character, respect, and aggression in its application. I believe it prepares the student for anything."
And this is coming from a high-level black belt in both arts. This is why I got my two kids in judo instead of BJJ. Not to mention that judo lessons are MUCH cheaper. If they choose to, they can learn BJJ later on.
@EricRyanCronin No I don't understand that there is only groundwork in BJJ? Because that is a 100% incorrect comment. I've been training in BJJ for 14 years and we've trained throws and takedowns(Osoto Gari, Uchi Mata, Seoinage, Kosoto Gari, Baiana etc.), everyday leading into our groundwork. So it seems your the one who doesn'y "understand". Educate yourself before you go calling out other people, or you just make yourself look stupid.

all of the sudden GJJ doesn't have throws?? we have everything judo has...our focus points and execution are different..we can slam you into the concrete too we dont just act like the fight is over after its done, yeah going into the ground like that hurts, but landing properly eliminates alot of the initial damage thats why we dont spend the whole day focusing on throwing people but its taught none the less,we just feel we can end the fight reassuringly with a ground focus..GJJ Forever Much Love
