http://www.dolphinstreet.com Rory Gallagher was a great guitar player, and he played a very interesting style. His technique was great too - awesome legato style.
This guitar lesson is inspired from a few of the licks he played in the tune Laundromat.

  • Though I'm not very familiar with Rory's music, I love the lick. It's a nice blues riff that's a little out of the box. My only complaint is the timing leaves it a bit unresolved - counting in a quick 4, I hear the end around the "and" after a 1, kind of confusing. When you play it twice, the second time through sounds out of time to me. I know sometimes you go over the timing, and wish you did here for a little more clarity.

  • @definealways I forgot to cover the timing... the 2nd note (15th fret on B string) is the 1. So, the the first note (12th fret) is a lead-in note. Hope that clears it up.

  • I've been using youtube to learn guitar over the last 4 years. I can honestly say that your lessons are the best I've seen. Thank you for doing this.

    Cheers from Denmark

  • Wow thanks! I was wondering how Rory did those fast licks.

  • @Vanguard448 Thanks for the recommendation, much appreciated. I listened to most of the Montreaux (sp) version which is excellent. I love that it's a fairly original style, kind of a jazz-tinged blues rock that doesn't follow the same old progression.

  • @definealways I notice you say that you're not very familiar with Rory's music - may I suggest listening to the version of Bad Penny from his Montreux concert in 1985? I love it personally, and from a guitarist's point of view it's pretty excellent.

  • @rotren I appreciate the response. I heard that lead note, but I have a hard time with how it ends. It's probably my ears, hopefully with some practice with a metronome or backing track I'll feel better about it.

  • Thanks Robert.....great lick.....

  • awesome lick, I will thank you for each of these !

  • Spanking great lick!
