I just got the news that my friend has died after a long illness. When her husband died two years ago, "over the rainbow" by Eva was played at his funeral...Now I will listen to that song again and think of my friend Lynn. This beautiful song was also on that cd I gave my friend after her husband passed, with many more beautiful songs which were song magnificently by Eva. RIP Ross, Lynn and Eva Cassidy.

I don't know crap about her as an artist, I just know music and have ears...this is good.

Transcribe this and compare it to the original she is not only within the original chord changes but the melody notes she uses are about 80% of the original. Most of what she is doing is inverting the melody or moving notes around by the octave...instead of going AupDupA she is going AdownDupA....that sort of thing. Compared to Cannonball adderly, miles davis, et al this is a pretty mild change.

Simply beautiful

I'm staggered at some of the ridiculous comments relating to this performance. I teach music theory and musicianship at university level and I can assure you this is no "camp fire" interpretation and its value owes nothing to the fact that Eva died so young. This is an ineffably beautiful rendering of a simple song. I adore Birgit Nilson, Mirella Freni, Maria Callas et al in respect of opera but Eva will always hold a special place in my heart for her wonderfully poignant performances. RIP, Eva.
