The Monkees (Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork) were originally a TV pop/rock band from the late 1960s that later became a real band. Their songwriters included artists such as, Boyce & Hart, Carole King, Neil Diamond, and many others, and were famous for their hits like "I'm a Believer", "Last Train to Clarksville", "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Daydream Believer". Their TV show, which starred the band and their crazy adventures and music, lasted only from 1966 to 1968. Also in 1968, they starred in the psychedelic movie "HEAD!" and in "33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee" in 1969, right before Peter Tork left the band. You can now see the classic episodes of "The Monkees" every Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. on Antenna TV (channel 252 on Comcast). This rare fast version of "I Wanna Be Free" was taken from the beginning of the original pilot episode filmstrip from 1965.

  • Great rare song by Boyce and Hart/The Monkees although I had to turn the volume on the computer I'm using to the MAX to hear this track clearly...Great example of a 'lost oldie'....

  • @grosskopf2 Sorry I called you a noob - had to get it out, and by the way, you're referring to the TV version of the pilot episode. This episode was taken from a film strip, converted to mp4 format.

  • The pilot episode version was Davey Jones singing the lead entered by a small part by Mickey Dolenz,

  • This isn't it
