Fan Efficiency: EC vs AC fans with a VSD - ebm-papst A&NZ

Simon explains the importance of Fan Efficiency. Typically, 40-50% of all power consumed in most buildings is consumed by fans.

He gives an overview of high-efficiency fan selections by showing the inside of an air conditioning unit where an EC plug fan is used. EC plug fans are being used in a range of air conditioning and air handling units.

By comparing EC and AC motors according to the Australian Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) he shows that EC motors are 15-20% more efficient and therefore important for increasing energy efficiency, even under speed control.
