8F Steam event Peak Rail 24/5/09

The Gala for newest restored 8F 48624 at Peak Rail-in Lms Red Livery which looked splendid! Also Featured is Hunsletb J94 Royal Pioneer. 8624 was on passenger trains all day and the Hunslet was on demonstration freight workings. Ive been to Peak Rail a few times before but there wasnt much happening then except for the Normal Weekend Steam Service. What fine and dry+ Warm weather it was too. My best time at Peak rail will be always this. Last time two Locos were in Steam here was about 9 Years ago in 2000 when A3 4472 Flying Scotsman visited for a Week that summer. I wasnt there though dint know there was a Peak rail until 3 years Later but have seen the video of "Scotsmans visit." This would be unlikeley to happen again as the "A3" had to be put on a Low Loader due to weight ristrictions on the Matlock main line branch which is no longer connected to the railway anymore.

Hi just to let you know that Peak Rail will be joined up with Network Rail once again next year. The reason that we disconnected the track was because the construction of the new Sainsbury's at Matlock meant that the Network Rail track had to be moved but next year we are moving our track so that we can steam into the proper Matlock station.

yeah sounds good steaming in to the original Matlock station on network rail i thought theyd moved it cause of weight restrictions-but things have changed at Matlock end since i last visited before this weekend which was in 2006/7 like the new roads, bridges and underpasses.

Will be good to see steamers into the original Matlock station again when the connection to network rail is re-connected.
