Start with FF8, then work your way up. FF7 is alot of people's faves, but FF8 had alot of passion and a very deep storyline to it, as far as the love story and the emotions. If you want a good storyline thats more complex, go with FF7. If you want deep, deep emotion, start with FF8 :)
Me personally i started with FF8 :D

If you want to play these characters, get Final Fantasy 8. As far as the fighting, all FF games have a lot of fighting...magic, monsters, swords, guns, all that cool stuff. If I were you though, I would start with FF7, and work my way up. Don't have to, but it's just a suggestion. Hope this helps!
