This is my small 2x20w + 2x22W amplifier I've built, it was originally built by me for my stationary computer but I got tired of the damn radio at work playing the same crap all the time, so I hooked it up with a 14,4V hitachi power drill battery and a mp3 player so that I can bring my own music to work.

The audio in this clip is messed up since the microphone can't handle the sound pressure level. It's not the stereo or speakers causing the distortion.

  • all that from 84 wrms? and a frigin drill battery?

  • @coolaidkiller101

Yes, drill batteries have high current capacity and can supply that power without breaking sweat :)

  • Good job, looks nice. Have you done anything with making a step-up power supply to get higher rail voltage? Looking to do the same for a boombox project of my own...

  • @digitalruler1337 Raising the voltage with the existing amplifier chip's I used in my amp is only possible up to 18 volts wich is the maximum operational voltage for them. Building a step-up voltage converter to supply higher voltage to the amplifiers is difficult because of the complex design of switching power supplies.

  • Try build valve tube amp, that is the true quality not this crap!

  • @MrPunkb A valve tube amp of the same power would require too much power to be battery powered and the amp only would be the size of the entire boombox itself.. I'd rather go class D to minimize losses even more.

  • @BadAndUgly hey i was wondering if you or anyone else knows where i can get an amplifier that can handle about 2x80w rms @ 2.7 ohms? ive looked for quite a while and only found one that was 300£ and im not paying that much since i dont have that much, i was looking for around 40-70£ or 80-140$. could anyone help?

  • Wow, that looks ghetto, but has some good sound. Nice job.
