How to Convert Canon 5D Mark-II , 7D, 1D Mark IV video to Final Cut Pro and Express using MPEG Streamclip.
Basically convert your .mov H264 video file into XDCAM or Apple Intermediate Codec using MPEG Streamclip and then import the video into FCP.

  • Ive tried using the apple intermediate codec in final cut express and it is very slow and i have to render everything. I use a T2i

  • @123Rosko If you still have to render then your Final Cut settings don't match your videos. Don't forget the "Easy Setup" step to ensure your settings in FCP are proper.

eg. If your video is 1920x1080, Apple Intermediat Codec, 23.98fps then your FCP "Easy Setup" settings must be the same.

-Also remember you have to go #1. Easy Setup then #2. Create a new project. If you do Easy Setup after a project has been created then the settings won't change and they will be wrong.

    Google it. Cheers.

  • Will final cut pro 5 work with the 7D footage?...

if so what sequence settings should I use and what film settings on the camera?

    Thanks

  • @fitbikepro You can still use Apple Intermediate Codec in FCP 5.1

  • I am using a fast MBP and I have a fast 4TB Caldigit HD and my computer is all the sudden sluggish and my video playback is stuttery. Any clue why this might be? Now I will say I am using Apple ProRes 422 LT as the codec I used in Mpeg Streamclip as well as FCP 7. I will try a few clips with XDCAM or I even heard that DVCPRO HD wasn't a bad idea to try a test with. It doesn't sound like I have a Codec issue that is causing my maching to be sluggish but I could be wrong too!

  • @cre8tivity06 Is the hard drive connected with Firewire or USB 2.0? Although USB 2.0 is technically faster overall (480Mb/s) than Firewire 400 (400Mb/s). Firewire is better at keeping a sustained, consistent bitrate whereas USB is more about peaks. USB goes fast/slow/fast/slow/fast slow. eg. 20MB/s, 10MB/sec, 20MB/sec, 10MB/s. Firewire is just faaaaaaaaast. 20/20/20/20/20 Which is better for video.

I also always use the built-in OSX app "System Monitor" to watch my speeds and find CPU hogs

  • thanks for posting. Very usefull.

  • Great Video. What about pictures? What settings can I use in mpeg stream to covert the files for use in Final cut express

  • You forgot about iMOVIE??????? UGH!

  • Is this an older verson of MPEG Streamclip, or am I doing something wrong? All the videos I've seen on this topic that use MPEG Streamclip have a menu with tons of options for the output format (like the XDCAM and Apple ProRes), but I only have about 15 to 20, none of which are the XDCAM or Apple ProRes options.

  • @MSam2121 I have the same problem.. I don't have any xdcam profiles... so frustrated. Did you figure it out?

  • i am also trying your technique of BATCH for my Mark 5D footage.. I don't think I have a new version of FCP. Maybe version 5? The Mark 5D isn't mine, just using the footage. I don't have any of the xdcodecs you have :( I also cant match the sequences in FCP... I just DON"T WANT TO RENDERRRRR everything... ugh.. Help!! What settings will be compatible and still give me a great vid quality. Also, what do I export settings for FCP after its all done? H.264? Sorenson? Thank you!

  • what if im using Final cut pro 10?

  • Really helpful mate thank you
