"It's time to liberate the youngsters and get them to write 'til the ink goes dry." - Low-T (aka "The Teacher You Love to Hate")

"Writer's Ball, Part 1"

Excuse my charisma, sharing my wisdom
Swagger down pat, so sit back and listen
I am the teacher and you are my students
Writing is a skill, and I show you how to do this
So misunderstood, words fall into a pattern
Thrown up on a page where punctuation matters
You heard it all before about the subject and the predicate
It's all about the things you learn and to not about the grades you get
'Cause life is to learning as pizza is to cheese
Even little Wayne is writing with analogies
You wouldn't eat food, unless it had flavor /Just like food you eat, your writing needs flavor
Listen to you feelings and put it on paper
Words are to a writer as a paint is to a painter
Don't you stress on nothing 'cause we proof reading later
Think about your audience and what you think they ought to know
Celebrate the words you write, our class is just a talent show
Don't you fear no mockery 'cause this is where we ought to be
We elevate each other just like we are a family

One small room, full of many students
I hope you pay attention as I show you how to do this
Think about your senses count em out, all five
Taste, smell, sound, sight
And touch, evoke emotion
Show, don't tell that's the magic potion
Create a mood & keep it real
Paint yourself a picture for the reader to feel
Like the night is black and the moon is hidden
The windows rattle, the wind is whipping
A skull is laughing, blood is dripping
Write these words and the reader starts tripping
Think beyond the literal it's time to bust some similes
Classroom buzzing like a swarm of little bumble bees
My steez spreads like disease
I'm kicking mad rhymes like dog's pickin fleas
Reading more books than a forest got trees
Hard to understand like I'm speaking Chinese
Ya want more? Let's talk about metaphors
Big ideas, that's what they're for
For example, my heart is an ocean
You might say it's wide and open
Vast, endless, murky deep
Things Metaphors make you think
So next time when you're writing a poem
Don't tell 'em instead show 'em
Read it to you brother and if he starts snoring,
Write a second draft 'cause your flow is boring
