http://www.pianowithwillie.com - In this lesson, I will show you techniques that I have taught students over the years and have used in my own professional playing. When learning to improvise, it is all too easy to get "bogged down" with unnecessary complexity. I will help you wade through that complexity by showing you how to create and practice your own improvisation using my step-by-step method. If you want to learn improvisation and you are still at a loss of where to start or where to go, then this is your lesson!

  • yes! thank you for making this video on this topic

  • Hi Willy, you are an excelent teacher and musician. I'm member of your course for a week (gold member), and I like it very much!!!!

  • Uhmmm... Heh... I think this is a great lesson, but I was hoping the fingerings to the chromatic scales might be in the sheet music.

Is there a way you could break the fingerings down on here?

I am trying to follow what you did, but sometimes it's going a little too fast to really discern what's happening.

Thank you for all the great tips!

  • dude...you are a great teacher.

  • this is way more interesting than studying for my science test :) I have learned life skills

  • These lessons are great, thanks Willie.

Re: "playing random notes" @ 05:25 - this is a wonderful exercise.

I've been trying it out with a latin beat, 50bpm using both hands as you demonstrated, and it's great fun playing all those bad-to-the-bone notes.

It actually sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good - even though I'm not thinking at all about WHAT notes I'm playing, just movin' along with the rhythm.

    Wonderful, thanks.

  • Hi Willie - just scanned all the videos - only one word to say and thats brilliant - I will now revisit and get down to some work to master the things you have said

    many thanks

  • Excellent Point!!!
