Musical instrumentation / arrangement - Ed Myers 2004

Played & recorded on Yamaha pianos, Korg and Roland keyboards & synthesizers.
From the CD 'Christmas In The Heart" 2004

This is my favorite Christmas song to perform "live", for the annual "Christmas Evermore" concerts.
The first time I heard it, (before fine tuning THIS arrangement), was in 1996.
I remember being drawn into it. The song is dark, yet majestic; with the minor chords on the verses, then builds beautifully to the major chords for the choruses. The angelic harmonies; paint a picture in one's mind, of JOY and SPLENDOR. It exclaims HOPE and to hear it (especially with headphones on), gives me chills.
It's the "real deal", and suggests the TRUE message of a Christmas song.
Thank you my SISTER'S, for letting me put my spin on this one. It is one of my true inspirations, and great job on your beautiful harmonies and awesome artistic delivery of such a gem".

This track was recorded at Mission Control Studios, (vocals) and Mount St. Michaels Studios, (music tracks) in Spokane, Washington, with the engineering help of
Mr. Karl Bingle and Sister Mary Bernadette.
Thank you friends, for hanging with me during long hours in the studio.
Thank you Reverend Mother Mary Dominica; for your constant positive feedback, belief and encouragement of my musical body of work with SINGING NUNS; since 1996.

Poem written in 1874 by Josiah Holland.
Lyrics put to music in 1905 by
Karl Harrington.

The words combine a sweetness and majesty, rarely found in holiday verse. The way the writer mixed the image of a young mother, her new baby, the events of the birth and the revelation that THIS CHILD was the KING of ALL creation....... was indeed inspired.
It would be another 31 years after the poem by Holland was written, that Harrington put the words to melody.

A heartfelt, lifetime of thanks to all SINGING NUNS, past and present, for your inspiration, talents, vocals, friendships and contribution to 30 years of music that has touched the lives of so many.

  • This is a beautiful song. The music of The Singing Nuns is very moving. I have had the pleasure of seeing them perform at the Spokane Opera House under the direction of Mr. Ed Myers. They were accompanied by the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. I would recommend going to see them if they come to your city.

  • Lovely voices to heal the human soul.

    I love this song.

    Thanks for posting
