This is my first ever landing in a REAL full-motion cockpit simulator. This flight training facility is based at Simtech in Dublin Airport and although it is the older 737-200, it is nevertheless a fully functional simulator with all the instrumentation and the usual bells and whistles.

Here, flight simulator and aviation enthusiast Anthony Murphy lands the 737 on runway 28 at Dublin Airport.

Excuse the nose drift after landing - I was not used to the pedals and did not apply enough pressure to steer the plane on the runway. Thankfully, the instructor gave me some help. Landing was full flaps, 140ias.

  • i wanna go here but i was wonderin, is there and age limit? also, the 737-200 is kinda gettin old, is there another public Simulator in Dublin (or closeby) counties which have more modern planes e.g 737-800?

  • I don't know about other simulators. There's an A320 sim in Dublin Airport but as far as I know it's only for pilots.

  • The Clicking sound are from solenoids in the yoke for centering.

when on manual flight, those clicks means that with that input, you are unable to engage the autopilot/auto mode in the old autopilot SP-77 from 732

  • Thanks for clearing that up. It's more noticeable on the video than it was in the actual sim. Glad to know what was causing it though, thanks.

  • Great! Could the clicking be the "Auto-Trim" wheels turnning?

  • No, they have a distinct rolling sound !

  • Feck is that old 737-200 you get sore fingers from the trim button.Click !!

The scenery has changed !!! It used to be green clouds and green dots on the runway like Commodore 64 how retro.I got such a shock to see the runway I did a bumpy landing and got a scolding from a young pilot. But looking back I put it through some paces the fighter pilot syndrone.

  • @AviationFreak95 Went today! defo advise it i had so mush fun

  • The clicking sound *is* the solenoids that inhibit auto-pilot engagement when the control column is not in the neutral position. You can not engage the autopilot when you are making an input - you must have your hands/knees etc off the control wheel+column. These solenoids are physically in the Autopilot control panel itself in the middle of the glareshield. They stop you from pushing the one or two engage paddles up.

  • hey can i gothere if im 16 but am not a pilot???

  • the clicking sound is the fuel pump, it means that it is on

  • yeah, im 14 but ill try to get here... there are some down in Shannon but they are also only for pilots and people who have vouchers. :) Thanks!
