Taubes talks about why "calories in calories out" is a true but useless explanation for weight regulation, and why exercise might not make you thin.

The interview was done during the ASBP conference in Seattle april 2010, where he was one of the speakers.

There are a few comments on here that is quite worrying. Gary Taubes is NOT recommending that you eat cheeseburgers or fast food. Animal fat and protein from meat should come from fresh sources NOT processed junk.

in order to lose weight you can't be vegan. I have dated many fat vegans. You need to know a little human anatomy and physiology to make that statement. the diabetes epidemic is due to over consumption of grains not fat.

Gary is right - carb restriction is the only way to permanent weight loss - especially as you get older and build up insulin resistance. Fat doesn't make you fat, carbs do. Period. I have 1st hand experience and continue to lose weight on this lifestyle change. Eat more meat, eggs, cheese and non-starchy veggies. Keep carbs below 50grams/day and you will lose weight. Read "Protein Power" - the only book you'll ever need for weight control.

Cardio exercise is not good for weight loss but it's VERY GOOD for your cardiovascular health.

well overeating if you have to little internal fats(for function and organs) will normalize body fat to a healthy state. studies shown in sweden and the rest of skandinavia. and no, bodybuilders/fitness people who have 4-5% body fat is NOT healthy. they know this.. it just looks good.. :)
