Taubes talks about why "calories in calories out" is a true but useless explanation for weight regulation, and why exercise might not make you thin.

The interview was done during the ASBP conference in Seattle april 2010, where he was one of the speakers.

  • I love this man. Just wrote a research article on one of his papers

  • There are a few comments on here that is quite worrying. Gary Taubes is NOT recommending that you eat cheeseburgers or fast food. Animal fat and protein from meat should come from fresh sources NOT processed junk.

  • I couldn't imagine being interviewed by this moron, he cuts you off at every other sentence...

  • AFROTHINKER, it doesn't work that way. You haven't read his book and you're just guessing.

You have 2,000 to 3,000 calories of glycogen. To lose weight on a high carb diet, you have to use up all that glycogen first, and that's 20 to 30 miles of running. You can't run 20 miles every day!

On a high fat diet, hmm, I don't know yet. I only started reading his book.

    Good luck to you!

  • @dcp3450 Bingo! I have been maintaining 40 lbs weight loss doing exactly what you did.

  • @Trinity61 Yes, exercise does make you hungry, so load up on raw/steamed veggies and fruits. Nobody is asking you to hog cheeseburgers.

Moreover, exercise has so many benefits that just to mention one aspect of it is irresponsible.

  • @VicFranklyn

"Junk food is for losers believe it."

Not really, otherwise you would lose a lot of lbs on junk food :)

  • lol i eat fast food when i dont have time to cook (which is a lot of the time) and i exercise daily. ive lost 30 lbs in 4 months. i went from 25% to 14% body fat.

  • @AFROTHINKER Exercise is the least effective way to lose weight - but the most effective way to make you hungry!

  • @VicFranklyn It's actually not that simple. You should read the book. Glad you lost weight. I lost 30lbs cutting out grains and fruit and eating loads of meat, vegies and fat.

  • @AFROTHINKER lol, exercise makes you lose weight if you are out there like micheal phelps working out 8hrs a day. diet is the onlything that makes you lose weight, not exercise, in the real world.
