This will be the first of several improvisations to come featuring contemporary techniques including string piano and prepared piano. In this recording I use the following techniques:

• Plucking strings with the fingernail
• Swiping strings with the fingernail
• Knocking on the braces and fallboard
• Loudly opening/closing the fallboard
• Playing in the intended fashion
• Teh dissonance

One technique worth really noting is when I harshly pluck the two lowest strings and slowly lower the dampers over them. Since they are vibrating at such a high amplitude, as the dampers impede their motion they creates a very bizarre and audible rumbling sound that often exposes some higher harmonics. This along with some other sounds I managed to produce almost sound electronically engineered, but alas, these are many of the sound effects used for spooky or eerie atmospheres in films.

This was recorded using a Lenovo laptop in-built microphone, while the video was captured using a Sony Cybershot series camera.
