Looper pedal demonstrations have the potential to be only either absolutely terrible or fist-pumpingly awesome. This NAMM-demo of the new Boss RC-3 and Boss RC-30 Loop Stations pedals is, thankfully, in the latter category, thanks mostly to Dub FX. Boss / Roland Corp flew the Australian vocal performer / YouTube phenom to Anaheim to help launch the new, updated Loop Stations.

The RC-50 remains the big daddy of loop stations, but the RC-3 and RC-30 are significant updates of the RC-2 and RC-20XL, respectively. They now feature USB ports for audio sharing, three hours of recording time, and on the RC-30 a second track and volume faders for live mixing. See the results in this video.

  • @J4m3z1 ....i am just a singer looking for band and you surely know more about the equipment that i'd rather not use at all...ideally i'd just take care of mike and let other handle instruments and effects ...but....if i already have rather simple and old fashioned zoom effect box (with not too many effects and no chance to use more than one at the same time)....those five effects on rc-30 would make my zoom effects five times more versatile...it would be like adding 5 variations on each, right?

  • @sexypoetry

The number of effects is extremely limited tho, to the point where if u wanted to use fx, yes you would have to buy external fx gear. There's only 5 effects on the RC-30. After a few songs those effects will be overused.

  • @DiscoYak ....what you call "useless effects" are: Bend Down, provides a dramatic pitch-bend effect. Step Phaser, changes phase in incremental steps. Sweep Filter alters frequency in sync with the current tempo. Tempo Delay produces a tempo-synced delay effect. Lo-Fi intentionally degrades the sound to create a distinctive character. Dunk your loops in cool effects without the cost and hassle of adding external gear....and this does not sounds useless at all to me!

  • @DiscoYak what do you mean by "useless range of effects"? in this video he is using only his voice and it is only thanks to effect that he can create interesting and versatile sound...in this video the "useless effects" as you call them are crucial....he is even using additional effects from GT-10B in the corner of the stage, right?

  • @J4m3z1 i have googled GT-10B and it seems to be effects processor for the BASS, right? if i want to do something similar to what i saw and heard here i need RC 30 and some multi effect processor...not necessarily GT-10B, right? i actually have the old zoom multi effect processor for vocals...i guess i just need RC 30 to become elvis, morison and hendrix (rolled in one) to this joyless version of cliff richards here..but extraterrestrials will kill me then...well, what a heck, it'll be worth it.

  • @gfmgma ,,,what is the big silver coloured thing in the corner of the stage that his mike is actually plugged into? this machine seems to be as relevant as boss loop stations for the final result....i fi want to do something like this i suppose i need this silver colored box too....i presume it is multi effect board but i would like to know exactly what it is, the brand etc....

  • How is he adding those effects?! Is his mic plugged into the GT-10B? I didn't know the GT-10B was a vocal effects processor as well as a bass effects processor! Can the GT-10 do the same?

Seriously awesome video though. Within seconds he's created new sounds DJ-style with no instruments or software!

  • That's great! Can I ask you something? I just bought the RC-30 and I was wondering if I can record a chords backing track that is, say, 16 measures on Track 1 and then record a percussive backing track that is 1 or 2 measures long or in any case shorter in length compared to Track 1 and make so that it doesn't stop and continues to play in loop while the chords go by. I'm starting to think that the only way to do that is to have 2 loop-stations, but before that a little help would be great :)

  • can u use only the rc30 or do you have to have another pedal board to go with it

    ?
