HE WANTED HIS CROWN ROYAL
ON ICE
-
Maury Chaykin is the actor's name. He passed away last year.
-
Remember to read the novel by Michael Blake. You get to know the Major al lot better then.
-
IT'S A MOVIE PEOPLE
-
I person didn't get their crown right now.
-
It's sad that the Anglo Saxon and Native American cultures couldn't assimilate with one another. The Native Americans were just too proud and free to be made subservient to the Whites, and that pride led to their destruction.
-
The major went insane from battle fatigue.
-
these suppositions as to why the Major shot himself, while interesting and well thought out, are any of them supported by the actual book by Michael Blake? just curious..agreed that Wayne Grace's performance stole the scene...
-
I have just pissed in my pants...and nobody can do anything about it....
-
@scholarofsteel the major was feeling his own mortality. To know someone growing old, someone who's even losing control of their own bladder & bowels, but who still has enough mind to understand their own decline is to understand.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in my mid-50's. It was a helluva wake-up call. A single surgery took care of it. I dodged a big bullet. I'm completely free of it, but I too understand in my heart as well as my head that I'm facing a gradual decline someday.
-
@Ellipser or one could think of it as the gradual decline into senescence & finally the death of an older, more noble, heraldic culture; a culture that honors its enemies instead of eradicating them. You can see the way he watches Dunbar departing; he would give anything to be there.
Or I could just be over-romanticizing it. I'm quixotic like that. In my spare time I tilt windmills and court imaginary maidens :D

4:30 Is that crazy , nutty , hollier than thou, ego ridden America king of the world?
-
@ToadsMGodes the best subtle gesture to get people pissing themselves lauging ;)
-
I love this movie! The isolation and solitude that Dunbar longed for after the slaughter of the American civil war must have been like a dream! The native Indian Americans look fantastic, they are a very proud people. It is a shame they are all but gone.
-
that major is a wuss. couldn't handle the frontier i guess
-
I'm watching this movie in Social Studies at school.. LMAO.
-
did you hear all the bottles clanging when he was getting the paper.
-
@EgaoNoGenki the reason for the clip: the only person in Lt. Dunbar's chain of command who knew where he was just shot and killed himself. That is how the character goes to the outpost and is forgotten about. He had to survive on his own...
-
@EgaoNoGenki there was alot of disease back in those times, and did not have the proper treatments to help medically and also not enough knowledge like we have today
-
Most memorable scene in the film for me, and has been since I was a kid.
-
like this comment if you started watching this video while flying in jupiters radition rays of sunlight in the unicorn valley
-
The major acts nonsensical. Why does he wet himself and shoot himself? Something's not adding up.
-
...there wasn't anything anybody could do about it...he's a boss
-
Why was that guy acting like this and offed himself?
The man who played the Major should have received an Oscar for his brilliant performance...
After seeing this movie in the 7th grade, I remember getting a detention at school and when my teacher asked to me sign the slip, I scribbled my name the way the major did at 2: 22 ...the whole class was laughing lol
