GM Victor Shim shows 2 moves for self practice of pushing hands. He also explains the sinking move and purpose of changing palm to be in straight line.
Then he shows how CHI can be used to eliminate the issue of force from opponent that would have to be dealt with using technique. Victor suggests that
we learn Tai Chi skill before trying to use CHI with opponent.
@dekal1 It's good to do chi kung exercises and tai chi. Any exercises that helps the chi ...good. When your arms can rise by themselves, excellent. If one can feel the same in almost all the moves, then your ren mai and du mai are opened.

@victorshim Thanks for the help. I'm breathing from the Dan Tien, keeping just a light thought on the crown, and making sure everything is loose. I'm not really understanding applying the Chi to the movements. When I do opening form, rise hands, sometimes they lift by themselves. But that goes away when I start doing the rest of the form. I'm doing Chen style. Should I just practice the movements and principles now, and maybe the Chi will come later? Also, should I take Chi Gong classes?

@dekal1 You are on the right track. keep doing the tai chi and you will reach a high level.

Thanks for pointing me to those vidoes they helped big time. When I sink, sometimes my hands and arms will lift by themselves. Other times, they don't. It feels good when they lift by themselves, does that sound right?

@dekal1 Relaxing and sinking will lead to rooting. When the body is very relaxed, the chi will automatically sink down yung chuan point. From there, the ground chi will bounce upward and uproot the opponent without using any physical strength or muscle. Go to the clip, sinking and rising or opening and closing... that clip will teach you how to root yourself and expanding the chi outward.

What does it feel like to lift the Chi up from the feet? I have had difficulties applying my Chi to movements to the hands and things like that. It seems to be the hardest thing. It rises through the legs and hips? Also, how should I go about getting the Chi to my root? Do you have any videos or tips on that?
