  • The irony of the word ' grand ' and it's usage in the song apparently goes over a lot of people's heads.

In ' the Cather in the rye ' Holden explains that ' grand ' is such a phony word that it really means the opposite.

JB was in English major and has written tunes about " a confederacy of dunces " and Kafka's "Metamorphosis"

    Life's grand alright !

  • @ComradeLeonTrotsky Very interesting, I appreciate your feedback. I find word origins very fascinating. Well, I have to admit, I certainly was in the dark when making this montage for I simply liked the song. I never dug nor dove too deep into the abyss of the deeper meaning of it all. I be the dunce, whilst this song tickles my fancy.

  • I think this slide show's got it wrong...I'm 99% sure this song is saying, "Ain't Life Grand" in a sarcastic manner. You guys should check out the lyrics :D

  • @JustCLaSSicGaming

I may have it all wrong and personally, I believe it is a matter of interpretation. I rather look for the good things in my life so I may have completely missed the nail on the head. I really do appreciate you having me see something with an alternative viewpoint for that is one way I learn. I also know that what I put my attention on grows and I made this video as sort of a therapy for me and this is my interpretation.

  • Dude, great video, shows us all the beautiful things in the world that really do make life grand! We should all celebrate our lives and the amazing things that make it worth living:)

  • @DeadPanicChic

Thanx, you sure made my day!

  • Yeah, don't forget Michael "Panic" Houser...

He was an incredible guitar player, fantastic to see live...Jimmy Herring is great too...don't think they could have picked a better person to replace him but it's not the same without Mikey....R.I.P. brother...Jan 6 1962-Aug 10, 2002

  • @khataroo " Imitation Leather Shoes " is about Kafka's " Metamorphosis ", " Bayou Lena " is about Tool's " Confederacy of Dunces ", " St. Ex " is about " The Little Prince " and " Bust it Big " is about Roman Polanski.

  • @khataroo That's what makes the song great and powerful in my opinion; It's kind of a " Fu** you " to the world but at the same time there's a hopeful undertone to it. I have literally giggled through them playing this live many times because i find the irony so deep...especially with a headful of LSD.

You have read " Catcher in the Rye " ? I assume you have as you understood the reference to " Grand ". Phony word, doesn't mean anything.

    Cheers

  • smile! it's great to be alive.

  • @JustCLaSSicGaming If you get really high and were at a show this last tour when they played this song you know there is nothing sarcastic about it. Pure goodness
