The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, an organization started by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, is one of the largest public school turnaround projects in the nation, serving nearly 20,000 students across 22 schools in some of the City's most impoverished environments.

The Partnership is a unique collaboration between the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Unified School District to turn around the City's lowest performing schools and to create a model for doing so district wide.

This video documents some key innovations generated by the Partnership in the areas of identifying students for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), parent engagement, professional development for teachers and principals, school accountability, use of new education technologies, protecting schools from the disruption of disproportionate teacher layoffs, and fostering inviting learning environments.

These innovations are making a positive impact on the lives of students in Partnership schools, the Los Angeles Unified School District, and school districts nationwide.

  • Mayor Villaraigosa (fake last name) doesn't want the people to have a voice Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Wednesday that the Occupy Los Angeles encampment outside City Hall "cannot continue indefinitely" and has asked city officials to draft restrictions limiting when people are allowed on city property. - LA Times

  • If only this were true. It's not a total picture, yes some schools may have shared decisions but at HMS this is absolutely not happening...many great teachers have been "displaced" at the whim of leadership that lacks experience and knowledge...PLAS cannot waste resources backing poor leadership....
