it seems otomo career started to go downhill and didnt produce anymore classics since Akira. i heard his biggest failure of project steamboy led him into deep depression

the motions look a bit weird and unnatural. their facial expression look a bit like a marionette.. but over all, the drawing works are pretty impressive. and obvioulsy that he put a lot of efforts and time onto it.

it looks just like a lively comic book rather than the typical animation.

is it drawn over? looks similar to the bad animation in Iron man, armored adventures. Looks simply cell shaded, if the animation was better, the cell shading is actually pretty good.

are you joking??? Only the animation is done in lightwave... Otomo uses digital dummies animated in 3d and then cel-shade it... all the cel graphic and backgrounds (and that's a lot of work) come after the lightwave fase... and are partly digital... but not done in lightwave

you're right... the difference between rubbish animation and non-rubbish animation is primarily due to the work of the director, the art director and the animation chief... YOU MUST CHECK ANY SINGLE FRAME AN NOT USE THE COMPUTER AS A SHORTCUT! That's what happened in Freedom... comparing with Akira: same character design, same color setting (even better maybe), same backgrounds... but Akira is a masterpiece and Freedom is RUBBISH!!! Otomo used digital dummies as a shortcut and that's the result!
