This is truly amazing. Fantastic craftsmanship! So what do you use it for?
-
I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Very impressive custom build, and I love how you showed all the detail in the fabrication process.

hey man i really admire your work but i have a question the power of the drives what did you use to power 8 drives are you using a regular power supply because ill be in shock if you could power 8 drives plus the motherboard with just a brick if you know what i mean?

@Crimedave1987 I was worried as well. I got the highest power DC-DC 12v adaptor logic supply had - 120watts. I suspected when building I would be cutting it close - Under load it only sucks about 80 watts measured with a kill-a-watt. Been running almost 24/7 for over a year now. Zero problems.

Will, in the Newegg video you mentioned about the latching switch to turn HDDs on/off, Can you give more details about it? Can it be used when the system/NAS is running?

@FictitiousMe You can go and "dismount" the raid by going into the rocketraid utility, but honestly the main reason it's there is if I want to leave the machine on but am going on a long vacation or something - just to save a little power / hard drive life. The once time I've done it I just rebooted.

hey Will have you had any problems with running that many hard drives so close together for a 24 hr comp?

@bladedush Nope, everything has been running great and temps are just fine.
