  • Would like to add that I agree with an earlier comment that when it comes to Birth of the Blues noone could sing it like the one and only Sammy Davis Jr. Another of the supreme all time greats.

  • As much as I worship Frank Sinatra in my opinion Matt Monro is right up there with him I simply can't separate them Matt Monro did not just have a wonderful voice but his interpretation, particularly of slow, romantic ballads is right up there with Old Blue Eyes.I was lucky enough to have seen them both perfoming more than once and along with Dame Shirley Bassey gave me some wonderful memories to treasure forever.

  • @blogward

That's often the way with pop singers who have above average pipes-they don't feel the need to challenge themselves musically or to learn how to get inside the lyric because they are wowing the audience with their voices.

  • por favor, pongan los años de las grabaciones de este genio

  • One of the GREATEST singers of all time, almost

overlooked on this side of the pond. His enunciation

    is PERFECT!

  • I think this was from the early 1980's, a year or two before he died. For all the problems he had with drinking and smoking, his voice held up remarkably well. To my ears, he sounds as good as he did in the 1960's. Great, underrated singer.

  • Wonderful rendition such smooth sounds ,do you have any more Matt singing jazz

  • What a singer, and what a voice. A magnificent technique. He certainly did himself no favours health-wise and vocally with a heavy cigarette habit and huge amounts of booze. But, that was his choice, and by God he left more memorable recordings than ten other singers who lived tobacco free and on the wagon. Sinatra rated him very highly, as did Bing Crosby - and who are we to argue? Bravo, Mr Monro!

  • Thanks so much for positng this video! I just learned of Matt Monro, so it was nice to see a more recent video of him! Thanks! He was fantastic!

  • One of the really great voices....but he loved to drink

and it ultimately caught up with him. Too bad, he

    really had talent.
