ERITREA- With the support and advice of the N.U.E.W (National Union Of Eritrean Women) Yonatan Kelib spent seven months in Eritrea filming his first self-financed independent documentary. His documentary deals with the role Eritrean women played in the 30 year independence struggle against Ethiopia and its impact today on society.

He wanted to know the personal stories of these Tegadelti [freedom fighters in Tigrinya], and what lead them to join the armed struggle, how their experiences in Meda [battle fields] helped form their perception of women's rights issues and what type of future they believe awaits the next generation of Eritrean women.

During the 30 year independence struggle, Eritrean women played a very important and significant role in helping secure this independence so this documentary allows these brave women [and men] tell their own stories in their own words. He is still editing this film but since he is a bussy man in grad school at NYU, it's really hard for him currentyly to find time to complete this historic project, but he plans to complete this documentary in the near future because the sacrifices commited by the Women of Eritrea, for over three decades, has to documented for the World to see.

  • I think he's still working on it because or atleast that's what he says on his website. But Either way, it's still a nice Documentary. I'm thinking if I should delete this video and remixing it with liberation music in the backround, while turning up the volume of the video so it can be easier heard...

  • Furthermore, if Ethiopian army is terrorizing your people, killing, raping your family then you wouldn't ask such a naive question. Everyone in Eritrea was directly involved with the war. I haven't met a person, whose family wasn't affected.

On top of that, "african mother[s]" are not all alike. So stop stereotyping. Get informed before you call anyone "idiot"... cause you just show your ignorance.

  • U need to learn 2 read better; u don't do it very well. I never said u were anything. But I can still tell from your "shabia" comment u r ethiopian. And u listed in yo profile that u live in the U.S. I'm part Ethiopian/Eritrean. But who cares?Get yo facts straight. Stop talking out of yo ass. I never said war was good. But I was disputing your claim that "african mothers"(have u met everyone?) don't let this happen. What r u basing this comment on? Fact? As if. Get educated, then make a comment.

  • Those that are ignorant to geopolitics cant understand why eritrea forces its population to serve in the military. They are naive. If they had their way eritrea would become just another african country who gives away resources under the disguise of "free trade". I am glad that eritrea is independent and has a long term strategy out of poverty which is working. Its hard when people are personally affected, but would u be as proud to be eritrean if you knew that foreigners owned your land
