  • thats bullshit. there is no link between the form of your handwriting and your cognitive skills.

  • @playgrrr studies do indicate both sides, but i think what's being ignored is the physical aspect of writing, learning, thinking even. so as much as intelligence may not necessarily be determined by using cursive or not, it would be worth looking at how the body and the brain work with each other towards learning. There are many studies that do state how people learn differently, how they use their senses to gather information.

  • why do scholars need cursive when they have access to the internet, dvd, camera phones, small high tech recording cameras/ devices, mainframes, printers, recording material, ipods, etc, etc, etc. to record or keep data for the future? unless you want to study somebodys handwriting for some reason.

  • @203207ab can't argue with just how much information one is at your fingertips with the technology, but what you raised about studying someone's handwriting makes it apparent that we can't truly get to know anyone through the digital world.

though handwriting isn't exactly the best way to get to know anyone either. nothing beats actual conversation. but that obviously isn't the topic.

  • I find that by using cursive, I can write quite a bit faster than if I print and that is the intended purpose of cursive writing. In fact, if I try to print while writing a sentence, I lapse into cursive to speed up. :)

  • people who are saying "it's a useful link to the past" are idiots. they're living in the past because they dont want the world to change around them. and if you asked me, as long as they have neat readable handwriting, no one really needs to learn cursive.

  • NO COMMENT. Oops I did it again.

  • Yeah, all those computer nerds had beautiful handwriting while those clueless cheerleaders had horrible handwriting - NOT.

  • I used to write in cursive all the time until I came to the US. Writing in cursive takes too long and I can't write notes fast enough. Maybe thats why people who do write in cursive have better cognitive skills! They can remember better! lol

  • @Neuromancer1970 oh i didn't think of that! yes, it would make a difference with people who think these things matter. Though i still do value clarity of thought and the expression of your message more than anything.

  • @Neuromancer1970 oh didn't think about that! yes, it does make a good impression. but i do agree that at the end of things, clarity of thought and the transmission of the message is what is most important.

  • @motorolarules I agree 100%. we shouldn't be phasing out knowledge, we should be adding knowledge. I think the human brain can handle it.

  • this is so true
