This only happens about once every 10 days. It's always the same thing- he's fussy and tired before eating, he shakes, resumes eating and then is very tired afterward. He does not lose consciousness and I can snap him out of it. Today I let it go a bit longer for the sake of the video to help diagnose what it is. Afterward he is very tired. I don't know if he's tired because of the shakes or was so tired it caused the shakes. Is this a benign myoclonic jerk? Sandifers? Seizure? ANSWER: Pediatric Neurologist says
"Thanks- cute baby without neurologic disease. The tremors are benign and seem related to stage 1 and/or stage 2 sleep- perhaps arousal from same. Would be happy to see him as I like seeing little ones with benign conditions that they will "out grow"- with CNS maturation. Obviously if they continue or become associated with other signs/symptoms let me know. " He outgrew this at about 6.5 months. Hope that helps someone!

  • I would like to thank you for posting this as well. My daughter is at the childrens hospital right now getting her EEG. She is almost 6 months old. She has 3 of these shuddering episodes. One at 4.5 months and 2 (2 at a time for about 6-8 sec spaced out by 1 min or so). She has been undergoing the EEG and all results have turned out normal. It seems to happen at the same time every time, while real hungry and very cranky near her final feeding around 6:30-7pm. I am ready to bring her home.

  • @thedude3030 I'm so sorry to hear that. I know it's so scary, but truly I think he had one more after that and outgrew it. It's crazy people have come out of the woodwork saying it has happened to their child. Good to go through the steps. We got it on video and the neurologist said completely benign. and he was right. Our son is perfectly healthy. From all I learned doesn't sound like a seizure since it's always the same conditions. Wish you and your family the best. Love to the little one.

  • Yes, please let us know what you found out. My son does the same thing while nursing & falling asleep....unless it is the episode that puts him to sleep. I'm not sure. My son started this right before 4 months but shortly after receiving his first shots at 3 months. We are going for a neurology appointment at Children's hospital tomorrow morning.

  • @jconney80 So that's the email. The told me that he would outgrow it and in fact he did. I really think he only had 2 episodes after that one. I think they went away around 6.5 months. I know how scary it can be and your first thought is "seizure". The main difference with seizures though, is that they are not predictable. If it's always kind of the same situation, like ours, I would bet it's associated with the sleep.

  • My baby just did this exact thing today with her arms while drinking a bottle and sleepy - did you ever find out what it is? Thank you.

  • @jenyoga123 yes read the post above to the other mother. Everything is fine.

  • @alililey1 seizures can be quite predictable..many follow a pattern and have triggers such as the sun, gluten, flashing lights etc. and happen at the same time every month, or during the same hours of the day.. just so other people reading this don't think that's not the case..

  • This has been happening to my son his first episode was at a little over 3 months and he is now almost 6 months, Thank you for putting this up I have been trying so hard to get the episode of my son on video because we have a follow up with a neurologist later this month. He had an EEG at 3 months old and it was completely NORMAL. If I can't catch one of his episodes on video then I plan on showing this video it's the only one I can find that matches so close

  • My son had this very same thing. He has since grown out of it but we did take him to a neurologist. She said she sees it quite often in high-strung or high-needs babies, she explained that it is similar to when we adults sometimes do a little jump/jerk reflex when we first fall asleep, but their little nervous systems are still immature and don't know to stop at just one "jump", so they keep going. Such a relief to know it was nothing to worry about.

  • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this video. This was such a kind and loving thing for you to do! My baby has the exact same thing and we have an appointment with a neurologist soon. The crazy thing is that it always happens when he's tired and eating his bottle. So this gives me hope!! Thank you you are a beautiful person for sharing this to give hope to others. It does help!!!

  • you aren't suppose to feed after that.

  • Has anyone had any new information from their pediatrician? I'm am still worried about my son. Although EEG test was normal it just doesn't seem normal at all. I really don't think it has anything to do with reflux. I'm trying to think of all the factors that could have cause this. I didn't take meds during preg the only thing was the wooping cough vaccine they gave me before releasing me from the hospital. My labor was quick but intense. He was fine until his 1st round of vaccines.

  • thanks for posting this video. My son has been doing this since he was 4mths and is not almost 6mths. It happens about twice a week, sometimes more. I haven't been able to get it on video and this one is perfect as an example of what he is experiencing. It is terrifying to see him shake like this, especially with the head involved. I've noticed that he tends to have the tremors when really tired. Waiting to see neurologist, hope results are the same and considered benign.

  • @thedude3030

What were your end results? Please email me at Fayem23@aol.com. My 7th month old is exhibiting the same behavior.

  • My daughter just did this for the first time today. She is 10 months old. She was really hungry and had just woken up from a long nap. I could feel her entire body trembling as I nursed her, and it lasted for about 5 minutes. Afterwards she was really tired and uncharacteristically quiet. Usually when she's tired she cries. IDK what to think, it really has me worried.

  • forgot to mention that the neurologist thought it could be reflux??? which reminded me of a couple of times i notice my son right before he had an episode he sometimes would have this weird almost snap sound come from his stomach and he would almost jump as it happen. it is a very slight jump coming from his belly it's weird. i didn't mention it to the neuro since he had only done it a couple times before i took him to see him. has anyone notice this on their baby?
