  • What transmission is that? I have one just like it, thats laying in my garage. I'm pretty sure it's a ford 3 speed, but no idea the year. Any help would be great.

    Nice Flathead

  • The engine and transmission came out of a 1950 Ford Tudor business coupe. Sorry for the delayed response.

  • Love the sound of a flathead. I have one in a 50 F-1 and can't imagine why anyone would want to swap one for a SBC.

  • Flatheads forever! See mine on youtube.

  • Very nice, makes me want to get my thumb out of my ass and work on mine......where did you get the muffler?

  • @jdmick A guy in our town had a '50 Custom Tudor (that "Two Door" in Ford-speak for you Bowtie nutjobs) with a 239-CID flathead. He installed glass pack mufflers on it. Talk about a sweet sound! And you're right, why would anyone want to ruin a beautiful FORD vehicle with a GD piece-of-sh*t Chevy engine? My all-time dream is to put a FORD 427-CID side-oiler into their sainted car-of-cars, the '57 BelAir. I'd put the T-Bird flag emblems on the fenders and hear the Chevy boys bitch about it! LOL!

  • I have to ask, is that an Oil Bath air cleaner? I love these motors, does anyone know where i can get one cheap? No running, needs everything? Just looking for a project.

  • Tommyharbuckle--You've obviously never driven a Flattie. It sounds like you've formed an opinion based on what other unknowing people have told you. Flatties are great. Sure, you can't get 500 hp out of a street-drivable one, but that's not the point.. Properly built, you can get 300+ out of them, but they are more fun when you build for torque rather extreme hp or screaming revs. Different experience altogether, man.

  • Ah yes, put on 6 Stromberg 97's.

  • @jdmick you "love the sound of a flathead" so you love the sound of snoring ! you cant imagine why anyone would get rid of a Flathead for a SBC ? maybe they want to see the far side of 70 mph !

  • Correct me if i am wrong on any of these answer's old guys...#1 Tube drain's into block via fitting on driver's side of engine near rear of engine. #2 Stock canister on this engine..pm if you need one. #3 Fan mount and generator mount are one in the same and use same pulley. Crankshaft pulley runs waterpumps,Fan,Generator. System uses 2 belts to acomplish these tasks. Hope this helps. Timmy Z R.D.F.L

  • Had a '50 merc with the 255 flatty, didn't use the filter set up, used 5W40 mobil synthetic. Changed oil every 3000 miles, No problems
