Description:
The educational goals and objectives for this tutorial are based on the ACRL Literacy Competency Standards. Standard Three specifies: "The information literate student evaluates information and its sources critically and incorporates selected information into his or her knowledge base and value system." One of the performance indicators for Standard Three is: "The information literate student articulates and applies initial criteria for evaluating both the information and its sources." The educational outcome for this tutorial is that the student will examine and compare "information from various sources in order to evaluate reliability, validity, accuracy, authority, timeliness, and point of view or bias." (See: ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, http://www.ala.org/ala/acrl/acrlstandards/informationliteracycompetency.cfm).
