If your dog has arthritis, try glucosamine sulphite. Homer gets a 1000 mg of Glucosamine Sulphite mixed in his soft food every other day. I used capsules from the drug store, there might be a better version for dogs though. He runs faster and longer because he has less joint pain, jumping over 8 foot ditches is not a problem. He's a 7 year old German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever X having fun on WR, BC beach.

  • Can I give my dog glucosamine and chondrotin for human use? I mean, the regular medication for humans can be used in artritis and joint treatments for dogs? Unfortunally in my country it´s so hard to find good and variety pet´s supplements for artritis, so I wonder if I can use the normal and common glucosamine and chondroitin pills for humans to help my dog. Please, help me. Thanks.

  • I've given Homer glucosamine for human use and have been told that it's okay. Apparently glucosamine and chondrotin that is made specifically for dogs/animals might be more beneficial but the human version won't do any harm. My brother has been giving his 10 year old border collie cross glucosamine for about 4 months and she has really responded well. She's become more lively and wants to go for walks again. Before she had a lot of pain with arthritis. Good luck!

  • Thanks!! I´ll start giving it to my dog. I apreciate your help a lot. Thanks!!

  • My pleasure. Some people report immediate relief for their dog though others say it takes a few weeks. In any case, I'm sure it will help!

  • you should try LubraFlex. It has everything including Glucosamine, Chondroitin sulfate, Msm, omega 3 and cetyl myristoleate.

  • Thanks very much, I appreciate that info and will have to look into it. As it is he gets three off leash runs a day and seems to have no problems. At his older age he still chases and gets chased by other dogs and recently scrambled up an incredibly steep embankment which totally surprised me. Haven't given him glucosamine in some time but put salmon oil in his food every day. Cheers!

  • You know, I give him a bit of soft and dry food in his diet so mixing the glucosamine is fairly easy. I give Homer glucosamine from the drug store but some people have told me that in liquid form might be better though I can't say for sure. I'm glad to hear you've been giving your Homer the stuff since he's a pup. I'm sure he's better for it. My boy certainly loves frolicking through the water, I'm sure you boy does too!

  • Every couple of weeks my brother comes to visit and brings him a lean prime rib bone which I hope gives his teeth and gums a good workout (he goes nuts for them). I didn't know that about Ester-C but am definitely going to look into it.

  • I don't know why my comments aren't posting but either way my black lab, Homer is on Glucosamine too and I dont know whether I should change his dry food to soft so we can give him the powder form of glucosamine.. any thoughts ?

  • oh and i forgot to say watching your dog just makes me smile. I know Homer loves to do all that tooo !!!
