what is the function of the jackshaft?

Man, the experience shows. I'd love to spend 6 months just learning the tricks of the trade in a shop like that. Simple, smart things like not taking the grooves all the way. Thanks for the videos!

Bit of a dissapointment from Porsche that you have to do a mod like this

You r ACE!

why are you tapping a worn out sprocket any way ?
-
lol damn that thing must make a hell of a lot of torque for a big ole set screw to hold it from turning, could you imagine trying to hold something together in the tranny of a big block chevy with a set screw lol

those two are probably for the valvetrain. I am no boxer engine specialist but I believe these two are hooked to the camshaft via chain as teeth indicate. some old vw bugs had only gears to transmit the rotation from the crankshaft to the camshaft.
the system is pretty similar.
Do you not use tap bits on your mill ? Or do you prefer hand tapping ?

@Maximusfool - This hole does not get tapped all the way thru so that the set crew can bottom out and hold things in place.

Should you not use Metric threads and screws on a Porsche? That would be more consistent i think

@irover - Use what you have.

why would you not just want to weld on the gear?

The heat would cause considerable warpage to occur.
