  • Yeah. Most people think of NES graphics when they think of 8-bit.

    What's funny is that both systems are very close in terms of hardware power -- the only real advantage of the Master System being just a couple more colours on-screen: Basically, for each shade in a NES game, there's two on the MS.

    That's not a lot of colour depth at all, but at this low-end tech level, that makes a whole lot of visual difference, as you can see here.

    no, not nearly in most things. The SMS has 4 times the main ram and 8 times of graphic ram and most custom Chips are more powerful then in the NES.

  • This is one of the games that shows the hardware capabilities of the system,

    nice and colourful graphics, smooth animation and scroll.

    If only Sega implemented the fm chip in every master system...

  • Hm, Is there any real Long play for this game? I mean collecting all stars? I could find a lot in my childhood but not everyone.

  • @Chaniyth The onscreen color counts aren't too far apart (SMS: 31, NES: 25), but the NES has some maddening limitations regarding how and where colors can be used. Max colors in a single 8x8 sprite for SMS and NES respectively: 15, 3

    The NES supported 4-bit color depth (16 colors on screen at once) also known as EGA graphics within the x86 PC industry. The SMS supported 5-bit color depth (32 colors on screen at once), this color depth was used in the OCS chipset on Amiga computers (although the OCS supported both 32 color & 64 color (6-bit)).

    In other words a CPU's bits has nothing to do with a system or computers graphic ability or color depth ability, 2 completely different things. :)

  • It was a wise decision to give the Master System its own game instead of simply delivering a downgraded port of the Genesis brother World of Illusion.
