Richard gives his 97 donation to the Melbourne Red Cross Blood Bank

To help call the Melbourne Red Cross Blood bank on 13 14 95

In many ways, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service is a reflection of many of the best qualities of Australia and Australians.

A NATIONAL ORGANISATION

Before the Blood Service came into formal existence in 1996, the collection, processing and distribution of blood products throughout the country's health system was managed by individual State and Territory Red Cross Transfusion Services. The establishment of a national blood service has facilitated new levels of national and international co-operation, resulting in improved consistency, quality and safety across Australia.

  • Im giving blood for the first time on thursday next week. Im extremly scared. I hate needles always have :( but I my uncle passed away of leukemia and one of my classmates was killed in a car accident so I thought "why be selfish, you can save 3 lives" so I've decided to do it. Im hoping it doesnt hurt :S

  • @DisneyPoltergeist How did experience for your donation go at the Blood Bank?

  • @Jordmate it went well :) i was so nervous prior to giving blood but it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be, the most painful part was getting my finger pricked to check the iron levels and what not. When I was giving blood i felt a slight tugging like something was tugging on the needle but the nurses said it was just the blood pouring out otherwise wasnt as bad as I thought. Cant wait til my donor card arrives to find out what my blood type is :P

  • @DisneyPoltergeist That's great ... now you might be able to give blood regularly ;) my blood type it O positive

  • Extremely well edited Richard and thanks for posting as a video response, I will take my camera with me next time!

  • @ajdpadbury Thanks Anthony - I'm looking forward to seeing your donation in colour ;)

  • @Jordmate nice :) my donor card finally turned up today!! Im A positive

  • Christian, you are a champion. The trick to donating is not to worry about the needle and to just relax and have fun. The nurses are so nice and everyone is in a great mood when you visit, because you are doing such a great service. When I'm having the needle administered I concentrate on my right big toe and try to move it in a clock wise direction without moving my foot ... works every time ;)

  • @hahaRanqe Ha ha - might get the flow a bit quicker that way. Nice try

  • Try the throat next time :)
