The most important and valuable thing about running the option out of the flexbone is the true blocking scheme. That is what makes it work so well. It is enormously disapointing that the blocking scheme will not be realistic. Its not just the end that doesnt get blocked, its the first two defensive players within 5 yds of the line of scrimmige either head up or outside the tackles. The two unblocked players are the dive read and the pitch read. This is what makes the option so tough.

Personally, I'm just happy they added the rocket toss, because its one of the basic plays out of this formation and it seems they finally figured it out. Plus, I'm an Army fan, and even though they didn't run it effectively there 1st year, they should be a lot more effective at running the flexbone and I do expect them to do a lot better this season. Go Army, Beat Navy!!!!!
