Pharaoh: Mission 3

"The Precarious Nile" is mission 3 of the original family history campaign, and takes place in Perwadjyt, also known as Buto. (Predynastic Period: Mission 3) This video is just a quick demo of how I completed the level. I am absolutely certain that it is neither the best nor the fastest way to complete the level. I am just as certain that this method does work, however.

All missions I post were completed on normal mode with no cheats. I have not modified the game or the data files in any way. However, the game is fully updated, including the Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile expansion pack and all updates.

Can someone please help me? All of my houses are Ordinary Cottages and I can't get them to upgrade! They say they have too little enterntainment even though they are fully covered by the jugglers. I also hold a festival every six months and still nothing... it's very frustrating. I play on very hard.

@newisd You'll also need other types of entertainment. Instead of building places for jugglers, try the next step up, along with the appropriate trainers. (Can't remember the name off the top of my head. I'm feeling rather dumb)

@Glitchfinder Thanks for the quick reply. I agree about the other entertainment forms, however in this mission I had only the jugglers available. So I did a little experiment: once I completed my town I turned the difficulty from very hard to normal and Poof! - mission completed! Unless there is a patch that I haven't installed, I thnk the creators of the game have managed to create a literally impassable level. :)

@newisd Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the game technically qualify the larger temples as a form of entertainment? I know they count towards beautification, and the only other forms of entertainments I can think of are unavailable for this level. And I hope the creators of the game wouldn't have been careless enough to leave a mistake in the game so big that a single playthrough on hard mode would make it painfully obvious.

@newisd Also, are you using the default settings files? There are some .ini files in the install directory that can be edited to change all of the qualities of the buildings, for varying challenge modes or gameplay styles, and a sloppy editor could easily leave this kind of issue. Another potential point is that you may not be using the fully patched version, since I know they released at least one major patch for both Cleopatra and Pharaoh.

@clubermath You have to build a little, then make sure you have a positive cash flow. Build too much at once, and you get stuck if your cash flow isn't positive. This game requires far more patience than most beginners give it credit for. (And this video's strategy isn't really applicable in the later stages, where it would cause you to go into debt very, very quickly)

dude you have got to be the worst pharaoh player i've seen. there's no way you'd win the later stages of the game playing with strategies like this... just sayin.
