  • You've gotta see the whole show, not just this clip. Walsh does an INCREDIBLE job.... just great! I think her version of The Ladies Who Lunch is as good as it could be, considering you're never gonna be Stritch. You don't often get to hear it sung with a beautiful voice, which Walsh has. I would have liked her version more if she would have made it less punchy and kept with her strength of singing... less Stritch-like, if you will. It is still good and overall she is fabulous in this production.

  • Saw the show 3 times and she was ASTONISHING. She captured the jaded, icy elegance of the Upper East Sider perfectly, acted fiercely and sang with a great voice. This part is often cast with great actresses who can't sing. I don't understand how she wasn't nominated.

  • I'd have loved to have seen Barbara Walsh onstage - this is the best version of the song (in my opinion obviously!) I love the bitter, angry manner in which she does it, not to mention the 'rise' at the end when it's a-cappella. Bitterly wonderful.

  • It's so nice to hear this song actually sung and "talked" by someone who can sing. Elaine Stritch can't sing. She's dynamic, full of life, wonderful personality and excellent actress, but she can't sing. There aren't many women who can really sing and perform comedically at the same time. Carol Burnett is another famously talent comedian who has an OKAY singing voice but not what is required for a Sodheim musical. Barbra Streisand could have done it, though.

  • Barbara portrays this character better than any other performer in the history of Company, including Elaine Stritch and Patti Lupone in my opinion.

  • Oh God its intense when she looks RIGHT at the camera in 3:19

  • @hokieashleyt Also, it's a Sondheim preference. He prefers not having buttons, and often tries to find ways around them.

  • @donaldcallen I think the flatness is intentional, because the character is supposed to be drunk.

  • amazing performance... yes stritch has the vocal straps to make this piece grand, but walsh's chops bring authenticity to the lyrics and character... walsh is the defining voice for this song....

  • I don't care for Barbara Walsh. I've seen her in a few shows and she was cold, unappealing, and pretty weak in all of them. However, I applaud her attempt to do something different with this role. It's probably one that matched her natural personna pretty well.

  • Of course I don't know the story, but it is what I feel, and if what I wrote bellow is part of the story, well I was right, Barbara Walsh is good!
