I am a musician. I live in the Catskills. A few weeks ago I went for a walk after Hurricane Irene to talk to some people about how they are doing. This is one small clip of what I have found there. In many of these areas, people are still without electricity, cooking food over garbage cans, their businesses and livelihood have been destroyed or severely damaged.

In a few places, the smell of dead fish, fuel infused water and filth was completely overwhelming. These young people came on their free time, to try to help clean hazardous materials from their friend's store.

While I was in Arkville, I met with Kent of the Mark Project. The MARK Project is a rural development company that unites efforts and secures resources to build and revitalize our communities. This small but very dedicated group of 7 people, perform a number of tasks, but since the flood they have raised over 200,000 in private funds to help the people who need the most. People who submit applications to the Mark Project have often already been denied by an insurance company, or by FEMA. The Mark Project assesses the needs to people on an individual basis and they serve the people that need it most right now.

The Mark Project cannot help these people alone. Your help is very much still needed here.

To DONATE or to learn more about how to volunteer, go to: http://markproject.org/

The MARK Project Inc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All gifts are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Every dollar you contribute to MARK is frequently matched dollar for dollar by either local foundation, state, or federal funds. This makes your generosity go twice as far.

Sincerely and with Gratitude,
Sarah Fimm

  • Amazing!!!

  • so very sad to see such devastation, what a great project to help these people who need it so badly, thank you for raising more awareness of how much help is needed , it's is a testament to the human spirit to see people standing strong and not giving up when they've lost so much. The song you did for this was beautiful as well.
