Shannon Pot : source of the River Shannon

The story, the very short version
Sianonn created the Shannon, hence the name.
She came upon a spotted salmon jumping in this pool,
spots caused by eating rowan berries,
had been told by elders to leave salmon alone,
but she caught one and ate it.
Not only did her mind fill with the knowlege of the world
but the pot overflowed, caused a flood,
cut a trench in the soil and
the current caused by the flow along the trench
dragged Sianonn along.
The trench did not stop forming until where
the town of Shannon, outside Limerick, is today.
By the time Siannon was dragged down to the Atlantic
she had become spirit and found
she could swim upstream back to the pot,
and use her spirit to fertilize all of Ireland as she did,
.... so I though Robin doing this Beatle song very apt.

i was there this summer and was watching a few cave diving videos,dya think there are caves in that

@aerlingus18 The place is full of superstition, especially that if you jump in the pot will suck you down and you cannot escape. I have not seen or heard of anyone challenging that superstition. Its very dramatic after heavy rains when the swallow holes that feed it send so much water along and the pot bubbles away as if it is boiling, quite eerie.

fish do jump at the Shannon Pot to catch low flying flies. I kid people these are salmon, but are likely to be sticklebacks, and maybe rud. Most of the Shannon is not great for Salmon fishing. Good for trout in places, though.
