Serge Analog Modular Synthesizer and a homemade Thomas Henry Mega Percussive Synthesizer. I tried to make Buchla's bell sounds with my Serge. It didn't work but I still made something interesting I think. There are many metallic percussive sounds, even if none sound like bells.

The audio from two Variable Q Filters (patched as oscillators, one frequency modulating the other) is being used to voltage control the pitch of the Thomas Henry Mega Percussive Synthesizer, and it's audio is passing through a third Variable Q Filter. The shell decay is set high on the THMPS, and you are hearing it whenever both flashing blue lights on the black strip in the middle of the Serge are ON.

  • Thanks! The MPS can make many analog snare sounds. It's a good project. I needed analog drum sounds so I built it. I'd prefer the addition of VC Noise Decay, VC Mixing, and VC Impact Pitch to enhance automated variability. However I can get several varying sounds by sending an audio wave form into the VC Shell Pitch; for example I made very realistic metal sounds last night by ringing the Serge Q filter and piping the HI Output to the VC Shell Pitch on the MPS.

  • to get more bell sound you probably need more sine waves and less gliding/slew on the fm's

  • nice funky ending! and the sound quality in this video is great.

what can you say about the thomas hardy MPS? does it ever sound like a snare drum? I found there are some good ideas in his book.
