My message to other adults to listen to their teens. It needs to be said. We are creating an epidemic and teens are killing themselves because we, the adults choose NOT to hear what they are saying. Please, pay attention. Focus on the good and not so much on the bad. Show you care and show you love.
This is dedicated to those who mean so much to me, you all KNOW who you are. :-)
Yes sir. I don't expect I'd do very well as a teenager today either. Both parenting and growing up are hard jobs today--harder than ever.
But parents really have to stop. Stop and take the time to listen to what their kids are saying. That little bit of listening is, as you discovered, well rewarded later on.

That is so true for today. I wouldnt have survided being a teenager today. When my girls were around 20yrs old, I sat them down and said "If at any time while growing up, if I was out of line, said or did things to upset them, would u please forgive me". They stood up and hugged me, kissed me and told me that I was a great Dad. Any chance I get I tell parents to love their kids, we could never understand the pressures they endure.
