Yep. My Egyptian Christian friend called himself the "descent of Rome", and I didn't know that he was actually talking about Byzantine rather than Rome.
By the way, when Arabs today referred to Rome, they are talking about Byzantine rather than the city Italy; the term "Byzantine" was a term for Western historian to distinguish Ancient Rome and the Empire of Constantinople.

But if we were to follow your narrow minded approach maybe Horace wouldn't be Roman but a Samnite; Claudius would be a Gaul, Trajan would be a Celtiberian.
Wake up! Colonies were all accross the Empire, and many, especially in Constantinople itself, were not only legally Romans but also "by blood."
