What does he mean the "re-definition" of marriage? Marriage had been around way before the founding of Christianity. The Christians just defined it as a union between a man and a woman-- In America, the government can't even recognize a Religious marriage, they just recognize the legal part of it- Gay marriage is frowned upon from the religious perspective, and that same perspective carries over to the governmental part of it-- not ok

The importance of the relationship between a man and a woman does go back before Christian times. Families, then tribes, then societies, then nations celebrated this union with rituals and celebrations. This union which bears children was critical to the survival of the family, then tribe, then society, then nations. Along the way, it was given the name marriage (before Christian times) and marriage has been defined by this union ever since.
