It's time to start the Sauerkraut. The whole process from beginning to end takes about two months but the only part that takes any effort is the few hours that you spend shredding, salting and packing the cabbage into the fermenting container. I use a picklemeister which makes the process much easier and there is a much less chance that anything will go wrong with your kraut.

  • Thank you for posting this recipe. You are really fun to listen to - very relaxing, lots of tips and iformation. I feel like I just had a leisurely and pleasant visit with you.

  • @RatDreams Thank you very much I'm glad you enjoyed the visit.

  • I love sourkraut but I've never tried homemade I think it would be fun to try it any way I have two questions obviously the pepper are to your taste but what kind of peppers were those and where did you get the pickle meister

  • @MarshmallowVogt The peppers were Black Pearl a very hot Capsicum. I got my Picklemeister from simply-natural(dot)biz, but I'm sure if you google it you can find several suppliers.

  • Hi Dale! In my hunt for a Picklemeister in Canada, I came across the just-making-noise(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2009/08lacto-fermented-sauerkraut-update(dot)html. This fella has one and found a no pound method of making sourkraut with a picklemeister. Thought you might be interested. Anyway, I am thinking that I will just have to break down and buy them from the states....Dang shipping! Have a great day!

  • @dianemummvideos Thank you. You never know what YouTube is going to do. I stopped getting notification of some of the people that I follow too.

  • @dalecalder2003 you are probably right , it just had the weirdest taste the funny thing is they liked it the ones that made it.. so maybe it is an acquired taste.. anyway love your videos, for some reason I wasn't notified of your recent videos I wouldn't miss them.. :)

  • @dianemummvideos I had someone else say the same thing. I think this picklemeister eliminates a lot of those problems. In a crock air can get at the cabbage and yeast will develop which can give in a bad taste.

  • great video Dale, I love sauerkraut, but my experience with someone's homemade sauerkraut was not good..

  • @Organikmechanic Glad you enjoyed it and good luck with your sauerkraut mine seems to be progressing well and is bubbling away in the basement now.
