@hoopoe222 I guess as Lulu's son Jordan was born in 1977 that she was off the scene in the late 1970's & just got forgotten as many people do. I rememer buying her Something to Shout About album in 1965 and being totally knocked out by it

@jrg135 :-) yes I'm aware of that. My point was that the "Rare/Northern" soul scene in the UK embraced all those other white pop artists in the mid to late seventies, album tracks and all. I was part of that scene but I don't remember any of Lulu's "soul" tracks being played at events that I attended.

@hoopoe222 Her singles were chosen by the record company Lulu had no say she was only 17 at the time, the soul songs she loved ended up on her albums, its one of the reasons she left Decca records as soon as she could

In my opinion, whilst Lulu has a gutsy voice, it's not soulful. Not like Dusty or Stevie Winwood. I don't remember this from Wigan and I would never call this Northern Soul.

she's just Great God bless Lulu x

Thats my point if the label was covered with adifferent artists name we wouldnt have known it was Lulu.....would we have embraced Paul Ankas cant help loving you if the artist name hadnt been changed to Johnny Caswell...just alittle debate thats all.....I went to Wigan and some of the tunes lacked soul..but they were 100mph dancers..thats what alot of the kids at Wigan wanted.....I`ll be honest I was a bit of soul snob in those days if the artist wasnt black it wasnt soul 60s black soul i craved

I watched 'lulu - something to shout about' last night on BBC2....it was wonderful! All respect to this fantastic singer and entertainer...this is my favourite song by her x

Most definitely not Northern Soul! I am old enough and wise enough and lived it - Lulu would not have been embraced by the soulies.. we left that to the Take That fans!

We need to bring back the whole Northern Soul style. In fact, we need to bring back ballads, period. Music free of cusswords, music in good taste.

Amazing how many other white pop artists were embraced by the rare soul scene though. Charlie Rich, paul Anka, Kiki Dee, Chris Clarke, Jackie Trent. So why not Lulu?
