Seifert Farms making 1st cutting hay (alfalfa) on May 20th, 2009 in Southern MN. We cut 100 acres of hay and chopped it as alfalfa haylage in less than 36 hours, at about 355 tons in a 250 ft. silage bag. Definitely a little windy though, up to 50 mph winds, amazingly the moisture, which is critical, never got any lower than 55%, most averaging 60%. Alfalfa was about 175 RFV.

Also enjoy a little Slipknot while we get our work done...I know we did ;)

  • What do u use for a chopper?

  • Well, we use a Allis Chalmbers 8030 to cut, use the AC 6080 to haul, AC D-17 to merge, and a AC 8070 to chop.

  • Thanks Alan! We do this 5 times a yr, so we are getting to be professionals at hay making...weather pending of course!

  • Hey that's nice!! I've always loved making hay. Windrowing, chopping and baling. The FP240 is a hungry machine.

  • Yeah we are definitely not using it to its fullest capacity. We need a larger tractor to make her really work.

  • @Farmingguy100 Well, we are able to store more feed in bags than in silos. I will note that we have 2 silos on farm to store silage for my father in law's heifers. Bags allow us to chop our silgae in larger particles with stimulate more cud chewing in our cows. Also, silos are more expensive than bagging.

  • We can get 150 acres in 2 days with 3 people

  • what's the tractor??? pw

  • Good one, not much grown round here. Used to when I was a lot younger . . . Alan

  • Where can i get a go on this?
