A KC-135 does several circuits of touch and go's around the pattern at Plattsburgh AFB, New York, in July of 1993. This former SAC base closed a couple years after I shot this video. It's a pretty amature video, but I was only 12 years old at the time.

  • Hi, can you tell what the tail numbers are on the aircraft from your original video? I can't make it out from this video. I ask because my logbook shows that I was flying that day on a KC135R out of Plattsburgh AFB.

  • @bograt747

I wish I could help, but I don't even know where the original VHS tape is? Sorry I can't help!

  • I lived there at this time too, from 92-94 and was about 11 when we moved, where did you go to school at?

  • I graduated from Windham High School. It's about 14 miles west of Portland, Maine. I shot this video while on a family vacation in Plattsburgh, during the summer of 1993

  • @bograt747 I flew at Plattsburgh as the changeover from "A" to "R" took place, and the wing was stood down a year or two after I left - without ever being a home to "R"C135's to the best of my knowledge. Plattsburgh was also home to the KC135Q model - one with a slightly different refuelling system for the SR71, but the same engines nonetheless.

  • @3Vader1 Not quite right. The original KC135As had the demineralised water injected J57 turbo jet engines fitted, and were re-designated (not phased out) as the KC135"R" when the CFM56 turbofan engines were fitted. The RC135 were recon (hence the "R" designation) aircraft; as well as many other variants such as the EC135 (electronic-counter measures etc) and some were indeed re-engined with the CFM56.

  • @bograt747 Then you would know thats an RC-135 then, KC 135 were phased out with the new engines....O

  • @lowenbrau915 Thanks anyway. For the record I flew 57-1502 with CAPT(?) or LT Woodford. We refuelled 2 F16's, most probably from the ANG unit across Lake Champlain at Burlington. It was a daytime flight too and we logged a couple of instrument approaches, so the timing fits with your video.

  • I lived at Plattsburgh AFB from 1971-1981. My father was in the maintenance wing there. Hopefully, someday, I will return...

  • So cool seeing this footage. I was in grade school in the early 1970's and late 60's here in NY state(lol) thanx for the post from here I lived in NH

  • I used to live in Rural Chazy, New York 12 miles North East of Plattsburgh, NY.

I lived out there 1986 to Mid April of 1992. I have for the past 18 years lived in Rapid City, South Dakota. My dad was a station at Plattsburgh airforce base, but was transfered to South Dakota. Plattsburgh last time I saw it still had two shopping malls. One North and one South.

  • Cool vid, I was there 1984-1985. I got to go up in a KC-135 and layed beside the boom operator as she refueled a B-52!
