[Clarification: I don't know everyone's heritage precisely, so I'm probably not the *only* white girl under some definitions. I do think I'm the glow-in-the-dark-palest, though, so I should be easy to spot.]

  • Tiny question: is makeup really necessary to perform in this event? I don't want to sound like a creepy asshole (too late!) but you look so much better w/o excessive makeup. IMO.

  • Um, yes. It's stage makeup, not meant for close-ups. Anything subtle is totally invisible from the back row.

  • Freaky coincidence! I just went to a Taiko drum thing in San Francisco a couple weeks ago! I must say its a lot cooler seeing it live than on YouTube videos.

I am so sad that I don't live anywhere near Houston.

  • Oh neat! We're something like an offshoot of the SF taiko group, I think. Their sensei taught us to play Tsunami, which he wrote.

  • Hey... don't forget to tell peeps that Kaminari will be at the Miller Theater this year too in 2009, April 25/26 for freeeeeeeeeeee! I'll be there sellin' shirts again... cuz I'm not good for the stage... yet! Break a leg, or rather... a bachi!!!!

  • I think you still are the only white girl. lol! xoxo see you during practice!!!

  • Sounds really cool; Dutchie living in Japan, seen some Taiko here again really cool... hope you had fun :)

  • You could make a fortune cleaning windows with that wave!

  • Yay, I'm glad you could make it! Yeah, the fire spinners were pretty neat, eh?

I was on the far (audience's) left of the front row on the first and last song, so if you remember seeing that person bouncing up and down way more than necessary, that was me.

  • Hope your performance went well. Sounds great.

I saw a performance of that sort of drumming at the Festival years ago. Really blew me away; especially I was near the front. Still have the CD somewhere that refuses to play on Windows Vista.

  • I'm overtly creepy... ;)

  • Me, my girlfriend and another friend (a drummer) went this evening. It was entertaining and fun. I was on the hill so I couldn't identify which one you were, but I'll take your word for it.

I wasn't expecting the fire acts. Those were quite good as well.

Off vs. Mosquitoes; victory Off. Though I do smell like a chemical plant right now.

If anyone else is planning on going, get there a little early to get decent seating.

Give my regards to your crew, they were great.

  • I would if I could but I can't!
